Google allows transcripts as RCS launch evidence

Lifecycle teams can submit a detailed text record of trigger, interaction and opt-out flows for Google-managed carriers, making launch evidence easier to diff and govern.

Launch proof can now be text-first

Google's October 7 RCS for Business release notes say an agent launch video is optional for Google-managed carriers when the developer submits a detailed transcript of the agent's trigger, interaction and opt-out flows. Google's launch guide describes the same evidence categories and the information required for launch review. Carrier-managed launches can follow different requirements, so the change should not be generalized beyond the stated scope.

For lifecycle and messaging operators, the transcript option is meaningful because text can be reviewed, versioned and compared more precisely than a narrated walkthrough. It can also lower the effort of reproducing a launch package after a small flow change. The trade-off is that a transcript can look complete while diverging from the actual agent unless the team ties it to a tested version and environment.

Document the trigger as an operational contract

The trigger section should explain how a user enters the experience: campaign, phone number, QR code, web action, keyword or another approved path. Record the sample message or action, the consent and audience assumptions, the expected first agent response and any country or carrier constraint. A screenshot of a starting screen is weaker than a step-by-step record of what initiates the session.

RevOps should connect the trigger to the upstream campaign and customer-permission model. A technically valid RCS agent does not establish that every audience is eligible for every message. Preserve the segment definition, campaign identifier, consent source and suppression logic that governs the production send.

Interaction evidence needs branches and failure states

A useful transcript records representative user messages or button selections and the corresponding agent replies. Include the main happy path, unrecognized input, unavailable content, handoff or support route, and any rich-card or suggested-action behavior that changes the next step. Number the steps so a reviewer can replay them in order and identify which system owns each response.

Do not submit only marketing copy. The operational risk appears at boundaries: when a customer changes intent, requests help, follows an expired offer or receives a delayed response. The transcript should state the expected behavior and, during internal testing, capture the observed behavior separately. A difference becomes a launch defect or documented limitation rather than being edited away.

Opt-out is a measurable end-to-end path

Google explicitly calls for the opt-out flow in launch evidence. Document the user input, agent acknowledgment, downstream suppression write, effective timing and behavior of any later attempted message. A reply that says the user is opted out is insufficient if the lifecycle platform or audience builder can still include that identity.

Test at least one standard keyword, a mixed-case or whitespace variant when supported, and the organization's non-keyword preference path. Preserve the identity used, timestamps and resulting suppression record. If multiple systems hold messaging eligibility, define which record is authoritative and how conflicts are detected before the next send.

Version the transcript with the agent

Give the transcript an effective date, agent identifier, tested environment, locale, carrier scope, owner and content or flow version. Store a checksum or immutable review artifact with the approval record. When a trigger, response, rich card, escalation path or opt-out behavior changes, create a diff and decide whether the launch evidence needs to be refreshed.

This turns the transcript into a release-control surface rather than a one-time document. The owner can review exactly which user-visible behavior changed and whether the production agent still matches the approved description. Keep the prior version long enough to investigate incidents that began before the latest release.

Use a two-part acceptance review

First, a lifecycle or compliance reviewer should inspect the transcript for complete trigger, interaction and opt-out coverage. Second, an operator who did not write it should execute the listed steps against the candidate agent and record pass, fail or not applicable. Sample the resulting events in the messaging platform and suppression store so the review covers business state, not only the channel surface.

Track defects by class: missing step, transcript-to-agent mismatch, trigger eligibility, unexpected response, broken handoff, suppression failure or carrier-specific behavior. Publish only the scope actually tested. Google's update creates a more inspectable evidence option for Google-managed carriers; it does not make the underlying launch, consent or carrier complexity disappear.
